Card Playing in Colonial Virginia

Card playing was among the most common forms of property included in the inventories of personal estates of Virginians. In 1665 Captain Jeremiah Fisher owned as many as nine packs, and a few years later, Jonathan Nwell owned as many as eight packs. Source: Henry County Records, Vol. 1677-92, orig. p. 313
