Chamberlaine Clapped in Jail

About 1685, Humphrey Chamberlaine of Henrico County, a man of choleric temper, was arrested because, in a fit of temper with Colonel Wiliam Byrd, he had stripped off his coat and drawn his sword so as to attack Colonel Byrd. He was promptly clapped in jail, he broke down the bars, but restrained by te guards. Sentenced to pay a fine of five pounds sterling.
