Sons of Noblemen Series: Rev. Lawrence Washington

Rev. Lawrence Washington and Sir William Washingtonof the famous Virginia family, was connected by close friendships with the Spencers of Althorp. The aunt of the two emigrants, the wife of Sir William Washington, was a half sister of one of the most famous and brilliant noblemen of that day, George Villiers, Duke of Buckingham.  Rev. Washington had been ejected from his pulpit in 1642 as a "malignant loyalist" and his fidelity had exposed him to many hardships. His sons shared his sympathies and removed to Virginia in the hope of restoring the fortunes of their family. Source: Water's Gleanings, p. 372
