The Fate of Governor Yeardley

The infamous Governor Sir George Yeardley of Virginia angered colonists when he refused to accept the claims against the Indians who had been stealing and killing. The Indians were such a problem and the Governor was so negligent that Nathaniel Bacon organized his own private militia of men to go against the Governor's men, called Bacon's Rebellion. There is a video of Bacon's Rebellion on the Bacon Genealogy (available to members). The unpopular Yeardley was replaced and he returned to England. On 20 December 1627, Governor Francis West (his replacement) certified to his death.
