One of the wealthiest planters in Virginia was Colonel Nathaniel Littleton of Accomac, a brother of Sir Edward Littleton, Lord Chief Justice of England, and a son of Sir Edward Littleton of Henley in Shropshire.. They were descendants of Sir Thomas Littleton, one of the most famous writers of law.
