Georgia Pioneers has an incredible amount of digital images of wills (last wills and testaments). Chatham County records did not burn, so the very first records are available. Bear in mind that they were using the old colonial penmanship and the wills were written in black ink with fancy letters. In fact, the first will book contains the will of Button Gwinnett, the controversal governor who fought a dual in the streets of Savannah with General Lachlan McIntosh, and died from wounds a few days later. If you have not visited Georgia Pioneers.com yet, it is worth a trip to see the county records available to researchers as well as historical features and videos.
